The meeting began with a detailed discussion on the Better Care Fund (BCF) report, which included the 2023-24 Year End Template and the 2024-25 Planning Template. The BCF aims to improve the integration of health and social care services. The board approved the 2024-25 planning template, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration between local health and social care providers.

Councillors discussed the successes and challenges of the previous year, with one member noting, The BCF has been instrumental in reducing delayed transfers of care, but we must address the ongoing staffing shortages in social care¹.

Thriving Communities Initiative

The Thriving Communities initiative was another major topic. This strategy focuses on improving community health and wellbeing through local partnerships and community engagement. The board endorsed the strategy, emphasising its role in addressing social determinants of health such as housing, employment, and education.

A representative from the Dorset Community Action group stated, By fostering strong community networks, we can create environments where individuals feel supported and empowered to lead healthier lives.

Safeguarding Families Together Evaluation

The board reviewed the Safeguarding Families Together Evaluation and its appendix. This programme aims to provide integrated support for families experiencing multiple disadvantages. The evaluation highlighted significant improvements in family outcomes, including reduced incidences of child neglect and improved parental mental health.

Improving Social Mobility in Dorset

The board also discussed the Improving Social Mobility in Dorset report. This initiative aims to address barriers to social mobility, such as educational attainment and employment opportunities. The board acknowledged the importance of this work in reducing inequalities and promoting long-term wellbeing for residents.

PNA Governance and Set-Up

Lastly, the board reviewed the PNA governance and set-up. The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) is a statutory requirement that assesses the need for pharmaceutical services in the area. The board discussed the governance structure and the timeline for the next assessment, ensuring compliance with national guidelines.
