The Employee Appeals Sub Committee met to consider an appeal against dismissal by an employee of Tower Hamlets Council. The meeting was held in private and its outcome has not been made public.
Appeal Against Dismissal
An employee of the council appealed against their dismissal. The meeting was held in private to consider evidence relating to an appeal on three grounds:
- Procedure:
The disciplinary process was marred by procedural irregularities that unfairly influenced the outcome.
- Facts:
The facts presented in the disciplinary process were either disregarded, misinterpreted, or deemed irrelevant.
- Decision:
The severity of the sanction imposed does not align with the alleged misconduct.
Declarations of Interest
Councillors attending the meeting were reminded of their obligation to declare interests in accordance with the council's Guidance on Declaration of Interests July 2012. In particular, the guidance reminds councillors that:
Failure to disclose or register a DPI (within 28 days) is a criminal offence.
The guidance also explains that:
Members with a DPI, (unless granted a dispensation) must not seek to improperly influence the decision, must declare the nature of the interest and leave the meeting room (including the public gallery) during the consideration and decision on the item – unless exercising their right to address the Committee.
