Summary

Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour in North Tyneside
The Secure Sub-committee was scheduled to receive a presentation by Councillor Karen Clark, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing about work being done in North Tyneside to tackle anti-social behaviour.
The report pack included for the meeting contains a presentation about work done by the Safer North Tyneside Partnership. The presentation scheduled for discussion describes the partnership's work, including:
- The 'Project Shield' scheme, which has focussed on Wallsend Town Centre and Meadow Well.
- The 'Coast Watch' scheme.
- The 'MAST & WiSPP' scheme, which has focussed on North Shields.
- 'Operation Respect'.
- The council's work with the dance studio Move It Dance on anti-social behaviour problems.
The report also includes information about the council's plans for Christmas 2024, which include providing patrols and CCTV for the North Shields Christmas markets. It also includes information about the council's plans for 2025, which include developing co-working hubs with Northumbria Police and reviewing the council's Environmental Crime and ASB policy.

Overall, the trend of crimes reported in North Tyneside have decreased by 9.5% at the end of 2023/24 over the last 5 years. The crime rate per 1,000 population in North Tyneside at 84.29 in 2023/24 is significantly lower than the Northumbria Police rate of 97.72 per 1,000 population, but in line with the England rate of 87.67.

Overall, over the last 5 years anti-social behaviour reported to Northumbria Police has decreased by 19%. There were 5,533 ASB Incidents reported to Northumbria Police during 2023/24, at a rate of 26.13 per 1,000 population, significantly lower than the Northumbria Police Force rate of 18.95 per 1,000 population.
Work Programme 2024-25
The committee was scheduled to receive an update to the Secure Sub-Committee's Work Programme 2024/25.
