The Licensing Committee approved an increase to licence and registration fees from 1 April 2024 and approved a consultation on a draft revised statement of gambling principles.

Review of Licence and Registration Fees 2024/5

Chesterfield Borough Council approved an increase to their licence and registration fees for 2024/25 in line with the Council's financial regulations. The fees relate to the regulation, control and administration of:

• The Gambling Act 2005¹
• The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982² which covers Sexual Entertainment Venues.

Gambling Act 2005 – Statement of Principles

The Committee discussed the draft revised Statement of Principles made under the Gambling Act 2005.

The Council must have regard to the Statement of Principles when making decisions about gambling matters. The legislation requires that the document is reviewed every three years.

The draft revised statement was unchanged from the previous version, which was published in 2022.

The Licensing Officer asked the Committee to approve a consultation on the proposed statement.

If no comments are received there is no requirement for the final document to be referred back to the Licensing committee before publication.

The consultation was set to start on 12 December 2024 and end on 9 January 2025. The consultees would include:

• Representatives of the Gambling trade including betting shops, bingo halls and similar.
• The Gambling Commission
• Customers of gambling establishments.

The final draft would then be presented to the full Council in February 2025.

The Committee resolved to approve a consultation on the proposed Statement of Principles.
