The Warwickshire Waste Partnership will meet to discuss a number of issues relating to waste management in Warwickshire. A report will be provided for members to note provisional waste management data for Quarter 1 and 2 of the 2024-2025 financial year. The Partnership will also receive verbal reports on the Resources and Waste Strategy, food waste, and film collection.
Waste Management Performance Data
The Waste Management Performance Data report for Quarter 1 and 2 of the 2024-25 financial year shows that, across Warwickshire:
- Recycling, composting and reuse is up very slightly year-on-year.
- The amount of waste sent to landfill is down year-on-year.
- The amount of residual waste generated is up very slightly year-on-year.
The report notes that:
The figures should be treated as provisional, as data may be changed until all authorities’ data is approved by the Environment Agency (EA) and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) through the Waste Data Flow System1.
Waste Partners Update
The Waste Partners Update report provides updates on the activities of the councils that make up the Warwickshire Waste Partnership, including:
- North Warwickshire Borough Council
- Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council
- Rugby Borough Council
- Stratford-on-Avon District Council
- Warwick District Council
The report notes that the Borough Councils are awaiting further information from DEFRA on food waste collection.
Food Waste Collections
The Partnership will receive a verbal report on the food waste collection plans being developed by the Borough Councils. The Councils are awaiting the outcome of an application for further funding from DEFRA.
Update on the Resources and Waste Strategy for England
The Partnership will receive a verbal report on the UK Government's Resources and Waste Strategy for England, including:
- Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging.
- Simpler Recycling
- The Deposit Return Scheme
Film Collection
The Partnership will receive a verbal update on film collection.
Action on Climate Change
The Partnership will receive a verbal update on actions being taken by Warwickshire Waste Partnership members to address climate change. Warwickshire County Council will provide an update on their work on energy and waste management.
Future Agenda Items
The Partnership will have an opportunity to suggest agenda items for the next meeting.
