The Hertfordshire & West Essex Integrated Care Partnership will meet to discuss the Essex Healthy Weight Strategy and their pledges on childhood obesity. The partnership will also receive an update on the NHS's 10-year plan.

Essex Healthy Weight Strategy

The meeting will include the Essex Healthy Weight Strategy for discussion. The strategy sets out how partners will work together to make it easier for people living in Essex to maintain a healthy weight, and to reduce levels of obesity.

This strategy is a call to action. The scale of the challenge should not lead to inertia, but instead to collective, sustained and urgent action, as we have seen for other major preventable conditions, such as smoking and teenage pregnancy.

The meeting will also receive a presentation on the strategy.

Hertfordshire & West Essex Integrated Care Partnership's Childhood Obesity Pledges

The meeting will discuss the Partnership's pledges to address childhood obesity in Hertfordshire and West Essex.

The pledges cover four themes:

• giving every child a healthy weight start in life
• creating healthy environments for children, young people and families
• building healthy weight messaging across the system
• providing access to support services.

The meeting will receive an update on progress made against the pledges made in March 2023 and will consider next steps to ensure the pledges are delivered.

NHS 10 Year Plan

The meeting will receive an update on the NHS's 10-year plan.

The Partnership will be asked to note the ongoing consultation on the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan¹. The meeting will also discuss the Partnership's response to the consultation on the NHS's operational planning guidance. The operational planning guidance sets out how the NHS will deliver on its commitments in the next financial year.

The partnership will consider the implications of the guidance for their work.

Government Food Strategy

The meeting will be asked to note the Government Food Strategy², published in June 2022.
