The committee approved a 3% pay increase for council staff and confirmed Dr. Emily Carter as the new Director of Public Health.
Annual Pay Review for 2024-25
The committee reviewed the proposed pay adjustments for council staff for the fiscal year 2024-25. The Agenda Supplement - Pay Review 2024-25 outlined a 3% pay increase, which was approved after considerable discussion. Proponents of the increase argued that it was necessary to keep pace with inflation and to retain skilled employees. One member noted, A competitive pay structure is essential for maintaining the high quality of services our residents expect,
while another highlighted the financial constraints, stating, We must balance fair compensation with our budgetary limitations.
Appointment of Director of Public Health
Dr. Emily Carter was confirmed as the new Director of Public Health. Dr. Carter, who previously served as the Deputy Director of Public Health in Oxfordshire, was praised for her extensive experience and leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee expressed confidence in her ability to address ongoing public health challenges in Buckinghamshire. Councillor John Smith remarked, Dr. Carter's track record speaks for itself; her expertise will be invaluable as we continue to navigate post-pandemic recovery and other public health issues.
Other Discussions
The committee also touched upon various administrative matters, including updates on senior staff appointments and performance reviews. However, these discussions were less significant to the public and did not result in major decisions.
