Summary
The Cornwall Council Appeals Committee met on Monday 7 July 2025 to discuss several requests for travel assistance for pupils attending schools across Cornwall. Councillor Pauline Giles was elected Chair for the meeting. All requests for travel assistance were refused, with the exception of one appeal which had been withdrawn prior to the meeting.
School Transport Appeals
The committee considered requests for travel assistance for pupils attending various schools. Each case was discussed individually, with the committee ultimately deciding to refuse assistance in most instances.
The following transport requests were discussed and subsequently refused:
- A request for travel assistance to Wadebridge School from an address in Bodmin.
- A request for travel assistance to Penair School from an address in Truro (Case 1).
- A request for travel assistance to Penair School from an address in Redruth (Case 2).
- Two separate requests for travel assistance to Mounts Bay Academy from addresses near Hayle (Cases 1 and 2).
- A request for travel assistance to Quay View School from an address near Looe.
One appeal was withdrawn before the meeting:
- A request for travel assistance to Poles Apart - Bodmin was withdrawn.
Exclusion of Press and Public
The committee resolved to exclude the press and public from the meeting, citing paragraph 1 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972. This act allows for the exclusion of the press and public when the discussion is likely to involve the disclosure of exempt information relating to an individual.
