Skills, Economy and Growth Scrutiny Commission - Tuesday 9 December 2025 7.00 pm - 9 December 2025

As Vice-Chair of the Skills, Economy and Growth Scrutiny Commission, Councillor Ali Sadek raised questions and concerns regarding traffic management and road strategies. He inquired about the breakdown of through traffic by vehicle type and its relation to the main road strategy. He noted Mayor Street's removal from the main road strategy maps and asked about collaboration with TFL to improve conditions for residents living near main roads, including potential funding.

Councillor Sadek specifically highlighted issues on Victoria Park Road, describing a section with parking problems and potential for speeding when traffic is light. He suggested implementing speeding measures and sought information on possible TFL support if the road is designated a main road. He also referenced previous discussions about average speed cameras on that road.

um i wanted to ask a bit about what you've sent it through traffic um and how it breaks down between different sorts of vehicles because when you tackle that problem is going to vary depending on the proportions that you've got and linking that to the main road strategy um i was just looking at the main road strategy it's interesting to see that that mayor street has now is now off that uh meds because they're on the main road according to these the maps it'd be uh not holding i guess because of amherst road and the changes that happened then which is quite interesting um but obviously uh the people who live on those main roads will be quite anxious about what made those strategies going to be for them so i wonder if you're working with tfl about the kinds of improvements that there might be on those main roads for the people who live on them and they're very close to them and if there'll be some money that come along with that

so for instance i mean i will talk about specifically right now on victoria dart road where uh there is part of a road which suddenly becomes much broader and there's brilliant parking and it becomes like a kind of steeper um so when it's not overcrowded with traffic and queuing up to go down to happy road it's it becomes a bit of a sort of circuit um and so some sort of speeding measures could be really helpful there um might get some help from tfl on that kind of thing if we're a designated main road and you know i think that's a question for tfl but we've we've discussed the victoria park road and we have a done a study on victoria park and we agree that victoria park is what we should be should be doing more um and it is this road that yeah as i mentioned problems off the 821 uh it's very busy um and there are different parts of it and how different characteristics um i is a borough road until it's an a road it's a borough road um possibly what you're asking more specifically about again sorry for bringing that possibly maybe we have talks in the past about potential uh average speed cameras or other other medicine or doesn't have um
