Council Annual Meeting - Wednesday, 14th May, 2025 7.00 pm
At the annual meeting of the Royal Borough of Greenwich council, Councillor Linda Bird was elected as Mayor for 2025-26, and Councillor David Gardner was appointed as Deputy Mayor. Royal Greenwich Council met on 26 March 2025, and among other items, noted the annual audit report, discussed corporate parenting, and approved the members' allowances scheme for 2025-26. Councillors also debated petitions from residents and discussed issues ranging from traffic management to knife crime. The council approved a motion regarding dockless cycles, and an amended motion on the economic impact assessment of selling off council car parks.

The meeting approved the Council's Statement of Accounts for 2023-24, its Treasury Management and Capital Strategy for 2025-26, the Housing Revenue Account medium-term financial strategy, budget and rent setting, and its Medium Term Financial Strategy and budget and council tax setting for 2025-26.

The Council agreed to reduce the maximum level of support available through the Local Council Tax Support Scheme 2025-26 from 100% to 80% and agreed to reduce the time before charging a Council Tax Premium to unfurnished and unoccupied properties from 2 years to 12 months. They also noted the appointment of Councillor Sandra Bauer as the new Cabinet Member for Equality, Culture and Communities, and voted to adopt a motion on protecting leaseholders from the cost of fire safety remediation work.

The Council welcomed two new Councillors following recent by-election successes, offered its condolences following the death of former Councillor John Cartwright, and agreed to note five petition responses and the answers to 36 written questions. The Council adopted a new gambling policy and noted the Royal Borough of Greenwich Strategic Risk Register, the Treasury and Capital Strategy mid-year update, and a revised constitution.
