The meeting of the full council approved the minutes of the previous meeting and agreed to several appointments to committees. Councillors also debated a petition to redevelop the Sunnyside Community Center, and heard a deputation from the Friends of Barnard Park about traffic and parking in the park.

The Islington Council Planning Committee on 4 June 2024 agreed to refuse planning permission for the redevelopment of 69-85 Edward Rudolph House, Margery Street. The committee also agreed the membership of its two sub-committees.

Audit and Risk Committee - Tuesday, 21st May, 2024 7.00 pm

The meeting on 21 May 2024, discussed the Council's financial position, its Annual Governance Statement, its external audit plans, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act and its cyber security arrangements. The committee voted to approve the draft unaudited 2023-24 Annual Governance Statement, to note the indicative audit plans for the Council and Pension Fund for the year ending 31 March 2024 and the level of directed surveillance undertaken by the council, and to note the Cyber Security Annual Report.

Annual Council

Annual Council - Thursday, 16th May, 2024 7.30 pm

Councillor Anjna Khurana was elected as Mayor of Islington for 2024/25, with Councillor Jason Jackson as her deputy. Outgoing Mayor, Councillor Gary Heather, was thanked for his service to the borough. Councillor Kaya Comer-Schwartz announced a refreshed Executive, with new responsibilities and some changes in personnel. The Council also approved a number of constitutional amendments relating to the operation of scrutiny, changes to the Members’ Allowances Scheme and procurement rules, and the membership and terms of reference for the Council’s committees.
