Young People, Learning and Employment Policy and Scrutiny Committee - Tuesday 1st October, 2024 6.30 pm

The committee received and discussed reports on Shaping Services for Children with Disabilities, and on the work carried out by the Care Leavers Task Group, and approved the recommendations in both reports. The committee also discussed its work programme for 2024-2025, and agreed that an update on schools and falling school rolls, as well as on the results of a recent Youth Offending Team inspection would be provided to the committee. Additionally the committee agreed that the unallocated item on Free School Meals would be included as a substantive item on a future work programme. The committee then moved into a closed session to discuss The Future of Leisure Management in Westminster.

At this meeting of the full council, a number of petitions and questions were presented by members of the public, two topics were debated by Councillors, a new Instrument of Governance for the Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES) was approved, and a motion was passed relating to supporting pensioners struggling with the cost of living.

The Committee met to discuss two reports: one on the North Paddington Programme and the other on the ActiveWestminster Strategy. The Committee recommended that the Council reconsider how many core themes the North Paddington Programme is attempting to address. They also recommended that the ActiveWestminster strategy makes more benches available in the public realm and publishes a timeline of events and activities to make it easier for people to find out what’s going on.
