Children and Education Overview and Scrutiny Sub-Committee - Tuesday 9th September, 2025 7.00 pm
Councillor Tony Vourou, Chair of the Children and Education Overview and Scrutiny Sub-Committee, welcomed attendees to the meeting, where the subcommittee discussed a range of topics, including youth services, school planning, elective home education, and family services. The committee noted the progress of several task and finish groups and reviewed the Cabinet Forward Plan.

The Children and Education Overview and Scrutiny Sub-committee met to discuss corporate parenting reports, a family services quarterly update, task and finish group updates, and the cabinet forward plan. The committee noted the corporate parenting reports, which included updates on the Children in Care Council, fostering services, and the Independent Reviewing Service. Members also discussed the family services quarterly update and the task and finish group updates, and they identified the kinship policy for pre-decision scrutiny.
Children and Education Overview and Scrutiny Sub-Committee - Tuesday 18th March, 2025 7.00 pm
The Children's Education Overview and Scrutiny Sub-Committee met to discuss education outcomes for children in Barnet. The meeting commended the achievements made in education and agreed to the recommendations set out in the reports on Educational Standards and Special Educational Needs. The committee also discussed a proposal to bring all Alternative Provision services together under one umbrella, which will be considered further at the Cabinet meeting in May.

The Committee accepted all of the recommendations made in the Barnet Safeguarding Children Partnership – Addendum to Annual Report 2023/24, the Complaints and Compliments Annual Report 2023-24 and the Family Services Quarterly Update. It also agreed to take forward an action to engage with the Barnet Youth Parliament.

The Committee noted the minutes of the previous meeting and received apologies from Councillor Woodstock-Vellaman. Councillor Naranthira sat in on his behalf. The Committee noted Councillor Conway's declaration of interest as a local headteacher at the 9th Room Primary School, a Jewish Independent School in Henson.
