The Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Commission met to discuss hospital discharge and reablement, and to receive an update on the Barnsley Street Neighbourhood Mental Health Centre pilot. The commission was also scheduled to review and confirm their work programme for the next meeting.

The Newham Council meeting scheduled for 10 November 2025 included discussion of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee’s work programme, a themed report on growth, and the East London Joint Waste Plan. Councillors were also expected to discuss motions relating to housing and developer contributions, and to answer questions from both the public and council members. The council was also scheduled to hear from Sunder Katwala of British Futures on the work of the Commission for the Future of Belonging & Inclusion in Newham.

Audit and Governance Committee - Wednesday 5th November 2025 7.00 p.m.

The Audit and Governance Committee of Newham Council scheduled a meeting to discuss a range of reports and updates, including the Best Value Response, internal audit progress, counter fraud measures, risk management, human resources, treasury management, and the annual complaints report. The committee also planned to discuss a report from EY (formerly Ernst & Young) regarding their withdrawal from the Housing Benefit Assurance Process, and a quarterly report on the Savings Delivery Programme.

Council - Thursday 9th October 2025 7.00 p.m.

The Newham Council meeting on 9 October 2025 included discussion of gambling regulation, temporary accommodation safeguarding, and updates from scrutiny committees. The council approved the appointment of three co-opted members to the Standards Committee, and also received updates on the Overview and Scrutiny Committee's work programme.

The Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Commission met to discuss hospital pressures, alcohol harm, and the council's work plan. Key decisions included noting submissions on hospital pressures and confirming the intention to examine reablement, step-down, and discharge support in a future meeting. The commission also agreed to note reports on alcohol harm and inequalities, with observations and recommendations to be recorded.
