Decision
To extend the existing bus shelter agreement with Clear Channel for a further five years until 2029 to develop digital advertising for the provision of three new green roof bus shelters and receipt of 10% net revenue on all the digital screens
Reasons for the decision
Traditional bus shelter advertising was based on ‘six sheet’ paper posters which the current advertising bus shelter stock is equipped with enclosures for. Clear Channel is developing digital advertising, which is taking over from paper advertising, and this agreement extension will permit investment to increase the digital screen stock across the advertising bus shelters. Clear Channel will provide three new green living roof bus shelters and pay 10% net revenue per annum on all the digital screens to the council, as well as permit council messaging or promotion on unused advertising space on the digital screens for the extension period.
Alternative options considered
Not to accept the request to the extension to the agreement and remain with outdated advertisement bus shelter stock and not realise revenue income and improvements.
