Full council record

Decision

That the Service Director for Operations and Environment Services implement the tariff changes, set out in detail in the body of this report:

To agree to the proposed tariff changes in a number of Adur surface car parks;

To agree to remove the half hour tariff in each of the surface car parks;

To agree to the proposed season ticket tariff changes in a number of Adur surface car parks.

To make consequential amendments to the Order arising from the authorisations given in this report.

Reasons for the decision

ADC Cabinet Member for Economy & Regeneration:

To ensure that parking tariffs remain appropriate, support the Council's approved budget, maintain investment in the maintenance and improvement of the Council's car parks, and keep charges broadly competitive with neighbouring authorities. The revised tariffs also simplify charging arrangements through removal of the half-hour tariff and support wider Council priorities, including sustainable transport.

WBC Cabinet Member for Economy & Regeneration:

To ensure the council's parking service remains financially sustainable, enabling continued investment in and maintenance of the borough's parking infrastructure, while contributing to the delivery of wider council services

Alternative options considered

ADC Cabinet Member for Economy & Regeneration:

Considered:

·         No increase to tariffs.

·         An inflation-only increase.

·

Neither option would adequately support the Council's budget position. I therefore support the recommended proposals set out in the report

WBC Cabinet Member for Economy & Regeneration:

The option of making no changes to parking tariffs, or applying a lower level of increase, was considered. These options would not provide sufficient additional income to help meet the increasing costs of operating and maintaining the council's parking service or support the council's approved budget. I therefore support the recommendations set out in the report.
