To grant and instruct Legal Services to execute, a new lease of land to the rear of 66 Canada Road, Arundel, for 5 years, commencing 19 January 2026 and expiring 18 January 2031 for use as garden land only in conjunction with the adjoining property.

The tenant is X and X. The rent is £350 per annum. Landlord may terminate at any time on 1 months’ notice. All repair responsibilities with tenant.

Reasons for the decision

To maintain formalised occupation and income for the site, which has no other viable uses.

Alternative options considered

1) Not to renew the lease. This option would leave the land with no use, a loss of income and maintenance responsibilities reverting to the Council.
2) Allow the lease to continue ‘holding over’. Terms would remain, preventing rental uplift and leaving the matter unresolved and requiring future attention.
