To appoint HOP Consulting Civil and Structural Engineers to undertake surveys and condition reports of 5 river wall assets in Arundel

Reasons for the decision

Following recent legal advice clarifying Arun District Council’s responsibilities a brief was prepared and three specialist consultants were invited to quote and the results were –

HOP Consulting = £13,500.00
Archibald Shaw = Declined to quote
Mackley = Nil return

The quote received was for an initial river side survey that will lead to further recommendations and investigations.

The survey will be conducted using a safety boat and limited to tidal restrictions.

Alternative options considered

Do nothing, This is not an option as the council has legal obligations to maintain these structures and needs to understand how to manage the risks associated with them.

Defer to a later date, To defer till later the risks will increase.

Seek alternative quotes, The quote received appears proportional to the work required and is in line with Contract Standing Orders.
