Purpose
To approve the Babergh Biodiversity Action Plan.
Decision
It was RESOLVED: -
- 1.1 That Cabinet adopted Option A – to adopt the new Biodiversity Action Plan for the period 2026-2030
REASON FOR DECISION
The adoption of the proposed Biodiversity Action Plan would demonstrate the council’s commitment to biodiversity and nature recovery, expanding upon work already delivered and extending the benefits to a broader range of residents and communities. The Action Plan will communicate key priorities and enable greater partnership working. It will also coordinate a range of activity into a more coherent whole, making greater use of available resources.
Adoption will demonstrate continued consideration for biodiversity, supporting the council’s ability to comply with its statutory obligation, to support delivery against the aims of the Suffolk Local Nature Recovery Strategy and align with national goals and legislation.
Alternative Options Considered and Rejected:
Option B – the new Biodiversity Action Plan is not adopted, and biodiversity delivery continues to be guided by the existing Biodiversity Action Plan and other activities within the Council.
