Decision

In
accordance with the requirements of the National School Admissions
Code (2021) to approve the proposed co-ordinated scheme for
admission to schools in the Borough during the 2027/2028 academic
year.

Reasons for the decision

Barnsley MBC acts as the admissions authority for all maintained
community and voluntary controlled schools within the Borough. The
co-ordination of admission schemes between different admission
authorities in local areas, is a statutory requirement upon the
local authority and is a mechanism for ensuring the single offer of
a school place on National Offer Day where a parent has completed a
common application form.

The
purpose of this report is to approve the co-ordination of admission
arrangements for the 2027/2028 admission year. The draft proposed
scheme is fully compliant with the requirements of school
admissions legislation which sets out the statutory duties of the
Local Authority. A copy of the Scheme is attached as Appendix 1 to
this report.

As
there are no changes proposed to the previous coordinated scheme,
consultation was not required.

Alternative options considered

The
exclusive purpose of this report is to ensure the implementation of
the
co-ordinated scheme of admission to schools in Barnsley in
compliance with the Local Authority’s statutory
responsibilities under the Schools Admissions Code.
