The proposal to be advertised and any objections to be the subject of a report to Cabinet Spokesperson. If there are no objections, the Head of Highways & Engineering and the Head of Legal Services be authorised to make and implement the Order.

Reasons for the decision

The South Yorkshire Combined Mayoral Authority (SYMCA) is reporting ongoing access and traffic flow issues for bus services along Redbrook Road, Gawber, in particular the section of road between Church Street and Limes Way.

This section of Redbrook Road is predominantly residential with mainly detached and semi-detached properties with off-street private parking. There is a medium sized food store between the junctions of Intake Lane and Limes Avenue, which has a car park accessed of both Redbrook Road and Church Street.

The topography of the road along this section of Redbrook Road is running generally west-to-east and has an incline with a left-handed bend with blind summit. There are no current waiting restrictions and one Bus Stop Clearway immediately opposite Church Street junction on the east bound lane.

The issues reported include Bus services experiencing significant delays and manoeuvring issues due to inconsiderate, obstructive, and illegal parked vehicles on both sides of the road on the stretch of road between Church Street and Limes Way.

This parking is both narrowing the width of the road to such an extent that creates pinch points, reduced manoeuvring capability, prevents two-way flow of traffic, and half-on/half-off parking on the footways obstructing access for footway users, forcing them into the roadway in order to pass.

Alternative options considered

Physical engineering measures such as bollards and railings were considered but these were deemed to be too intrusive on the carriageway and footway for other road users.
