Decision

To accept the grant funding from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) totalling £141,000 and release these resources into the Capital Programme to enable delivery of the scheme listed above.

Reasons for the decision

In September 2021, the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) submitted a bid to the Department of Transport (DfT) to secure funding from the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS). Working to an anticipated, overall expected allocation of £400m, a SYMCA request was to submit a list of schemes that met with the DfT criteria.

Since the award of the funding, the Transport/Highway Design teams have prepared the Strategic Outline Business Cases (SOBC) for several of the Council’s schemes and have received SYMCA approval to progress from SOBC to Full Business Case; The Worsbrough to Wombwell Active Travel Route being one.

Alternative options considered

By not accepting the funding, the scheme is unable to progress to delivery. This scheme is another “quick win” for the Council and SYMCA as it will be completed way ahead of the CRSTS deadline of 2027.
