Decision

Public Health and Communities DMT have agreed to continue with this model for a further 12months using part budget already allocated to this work programme and funding which was matched via the ICB QUIT programme.

Reasons for the decision

Public Health funded two extra smoking advisors in 2021 that where based within the North East and South Areas of Barnsley. These advisors work closely with the Area Councils and engage with events, businesses and individuals living or working within their specific catchment areas. This model has proven to increase referral in to service and quit rates within the areas the workers are placed – evidenced through monthly, quarterly and annual performance reviews. Barnsley’s smoking prevalence continues to improve and our local cessation service is top of the regional league table for successful 4 week quit rates, also currently second in the country. The current model has contributed to these successes. The current contract with the provider ends in October 2024 and we are looking to continue this model in order to include in any re-modelling of the service, if the performance continues for a further 12 months.
