7-2023-24 - Real Living Wage
November 6, 2023 Cabinet Member for Strategy & Communications (Cabinet member) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
The Real Living Wage (previously known as the Foundation Living Wage) was adopted within the Council with effect from April 2013. The impact of this Cabinet decision is that all of the Council’s staff, including casual workers, earn a living wage for the hours they do from that date. Adoption of the RLW is at the discretion of each employer, and is distinct from the Living Wage introduced by the Government subsequently (the “National Living Wage”), which is a mandatory minimum rate of pay which employers are obliged to pay.
Decision
To adopt the new RLW rate of £12.00 per hour for the Living Wage supplement, effective from 1 December 2023. This will provide the opportunity to immediately mitigate any financial hardship for staff on scps 2-8 arising from the current cost of living crisis.
