About

The Standards and Business Committee promotes and maintains high standards of conduct for elected Members and their working relationships with officers. It advises on the Code of Conduct for Councillors, oversees training on conduct principles, and manages the Members' Register of Interests. The committee also oversees protocols for resolving low-level disputes between councillors and considers referrals to the Local Government Commissioner for Standards.

In its business remit, the committee reviews Notices of Motion, recommends their adoption or debate, and reviews Council Standing Orders and the Scheme of Delegation. It also considers council matters under investigation and monitors administrative and procedural governance arrangements.
