Purpose

To approve the Corporate Parenting Strategy
2025-2028 following public consultation

Decision

RESOLVED that the Corporate
Parenting Strategy 2025-28 and action plan is approved.

RECOMMENDED to Council that care
experience is recognised as a protected
characteristic.

Reasons for the decision

i.
The Children and Social Work Act 2017 requires that every
Councillor and Officer within a Local Authority has the
responsibility to act for every Child Looked After under the
Council. This duty stretches to those leaving Care and the support
the council provides until the age of 25.

ii.
This strategy is a crucial document that reflects the
council’s commitment to supporting children and young people
in care. It outlines the pledges promised to young people and
offers actions that service areas and external partners have
committed to, to ensure a council-wide approach to Corporate
Parenting.

Alternative options considered

No alternative options have been considered as
the previous strategy expired in 2024.
