Decision

To approve the installation of a 40mph speed
limit on B3017 Swinley Road (between A329 London Road and A332
Kings Ride)

Reasons for the decision

The current speed limit is 60mph and the road
is widely used by pedestrians to gain access to the adjacent
Swinley Forest including a railway bridge section with no footway
provision.

Existing speeds are consistent with a 40mph under the Boroughs
Speed Management Policy and national guidelines. The proposal will
also provide consistency when compared to other nearby
roads.

Alternative options considered

A lower speed limit is not considered
appropriate with regards to Boroughs Speed Management Policy and
national guidelines and would likely be rejected by Thames Valley
Police.

A higher speed limit (or leaving it at 60mph) is not considered
appropriate given the pedestrian usage and existing vehicle
speeds.
