About

The General Purposes Committee is a regulatory committee of Breckland Council with decision-making powers, responsible for a wide range of non-executive functions not reserved for the full Council or delegated elsewhere. Its remit includes overseeing health and safety, elections, community governance, and personnel matters, excluding those specifically assigned to other panels or committees. The committee also handles byelaw amendments, smoke-free premises, pensions, and decisions regarding alcohol in public places and disorder zones. It has the authority to make payments in cases of maladministration and determines staff appointments and terms of employment, including redundancy and early retirement policies.
