Purpose
Local Authorities have a statutory duty under
Section 25 of the Children and Young Person’s Act 2008 to
provide a range of Short Break services that are sufficient to help
carers to continue to provide care or to do so more
effectively.
The current contracts for Bristol’s Targeted Short Breaks
services are due to expire on 31 March 2025 with no further options
to extend.
At Children and Young People’s Policy Committee on 27 June
2024 the committee agreed the budget for Short Breaks for Disabled
Children Budget for 2025 onwards, gave approval to recommission the
Targeted Short Breaks for Disabled Children contracts and delegated
authority to the Executive Director Children and Education to
procure and award the Targeted Short Breaks contracts in-line with
the procurement routes and maximum budget envelopes outlined in the
committee report.
A procurement exercise has now been completed to recommission the
services.
Content
To award 3 new contracts (3 years with 2 x 1
year options to extend) after following a compliant procurement
exercise:
- Out of School and Holiday Short Breaks (WECIL) £260k per
annum
- Bristol Autism Project (FACE) £59,453k per annum
- Holiday Short Breaks for Complex High Needs (WECIL) £110k
per annum
