Purpose

Bristol City Council has a statutory duty
under the provisions of Section 46 of the Public Health (Control of
Disease) Act 1984 to undertake the funeral of a deceased person,
whose death has occurred with the boundary of Bristol City Council
and where no other arrangements have been made or are about to be
made. We are seeking to let a new Contract, under competition, for
the provision of Funeral Service Arrangements for Public Health
Funerals. The service provided to us by the winning contractor
includes collection and storage of the deceased, provision of
coffin and nameplate, Use of a hearse to transport the deceased to
place of burial or cremation, doctors fee as set out by central
government and the cost of minister attendance.

Bristol City Council is awarding a contract to
Funeral Services Ltd T/A Co-op Funeralcare following an open tender
procedure, from 30 May 2025 to 29 May 2029.

Alternative options considered

Option 1 - Other routes to market were
considered but it was felt due to there being a small number of
suppliers capable of carrying out the service required, the
decision was made to opt for an open tender.
