Purpose

In 2022 Bristol City Council was successful in obtaining £6m in grant funding as part of Defra’s Flood and Coastal Innovation Resilience Programme (FCRIP). This is being delivered via the Resilient Frome programme of works, which is looking at new and innovative ways to manage flood risk within the river Frome catchment via six workstreams:
•Natural Flood Management
•Sustainable Drainage Retrofit
•River Enhancement
•Planning Policy
•Innovative Private Funding
•Telemetry Improvements
This Officer Decision Notice is in relation to the River Enhancement workstream. The project wishes to construct a seating terrace within Riverside Park, as well as make improvements to the river channel via the removal of debris and non-native invasive plants species and enhancement planting within the channel. Other remedial works include the installation of bat-friendly lighting and improved seating within the area. The project wishes to progress onto the detail design stage, which also includes planning, consents and completion of the Full Business Case.

Decision

To award the contract the contract to Mott MacDonald to complete the detail design phase for the Resilient Frome River Enhancement project as part of the Defra Innovation Resilience Programme Fund agreed at Cabinet meeting 7th of June 2022.

Alternative options considered

As this is part of the Resilient Frome project agreed at Cabinet on the 7th of June 2022, no alternative options were considered.
