Purpose
This report seeks approval of the award of contract for the
Islington and Camden Young Carers service to The Childrens
Society.
The service supports young carers aged between 5 – 17
living in Islington and Camden who provide care and support to a
family member with challenging health conditions such as physical
or learning disabilities, long term illness, mental ill
health or dependency on substances. In many cases,
many children and young people who support family members do not
see themselves as carers and may not be aware what assistance is
available to them and their family.
Following a competitive procurement process, officers are
proposing to award a contract to The Childrens Society for an
initial period of 12 months commencing on or around 01 June 2024,
with the option to extend for a further 12 months. The proposed
total value for the initial contract period is £228,854 (with
the possible extension cost of £222,414). The accumulative
total cost over twenty-four (24) months will be £451,268.
Due to the delay with the conclusion of the process, the new
contract will not be able to commence on 01 April 2024 as
originally planned. Officers will therefore be seeking permission
to extend the current arrangement with Family Action until the new
contract can commence. This will allow for continuity of service
and allow sufficient time to implement the new contract. A separate
report will be submitted to the Director of Health and Wellbeing
and the Director of Finance as this extension is not permissible
within the current terms of the contract.
