Purpose

This report seeks approval, following public consultation
to:

Construct three new raingardens (including 9 street
trees), de-pave a central area of hard standing and install 1 new
cycle hanger, cycle stands and new seating as part of Phase 1 and
install 9 tree pit buildouts and 2 cycle hangers as part of Phase
2. The proposals would help alleviate pressure from the existing
drainage network by allowing groundwater to attenuate into the
ground. The proposals would also increase local biodiversity, tree
canopy shading and provide opportunities for people to sit and
rest.

If approved, the scheme would be delivered in two
phases in order to meet the funding requirements from the GLA and
Transport for London. Details of each phase are set out in section
2. Further approval under delegated authority of the Chief Engineer
would be sought once funding is made available for
Phase 2.

The proposals would meet the objectives of We Make Camden by
improving biodiversity, reducing the impacts of flooding, and
responding to the impacts of climate change. These proposals will
also promote pedestrian and cycle journeys by providing cycle
storage/parking and providing rest opportunities for
pedestrians.
