Purpose
This report sets out the result
of the procurement process for the Independent Travel Training
Service. As only one tender was received, as permitted under the
public contracts regulations, the Council was able to enter into a
negotiation procurement procedure.
This report seeks a decision regarding the award of
contract for the Independent Travel Training Service (ITT) to
Action for Kids (AFK). ITT is a free tailored and practical
service that offers children and adults a set of essential skills,
enabling them to travel independently, by public transport or on
foot to a place of education or a day centre. The
training will promote independent life skills, improve self-esteem
and confidence. AFK demonstrated a clear understanding of how to
address doubts residents and carers may have when transitioning to
independent travel.
Currently there is no external
contract in place for the ITT service and training is currently
provided by internal staff as part of the wider support provided to
residents with learning difficulties and disabilities.
The service will be managed by
Camden Accessible Transport Solutions (CATS) as an alternative
solution to Transport services, such as Minibus and Taxi services,
currently provided by the Council.
The contract award report will subsequently be presented
to the Director of Environment and
Sustainability for approval in line with Contract
Standing Orders.
