Purpose

This report sets out the proposed procurement strategy for the
provision of a contract for an Independent Travel Training (ITT)
service for Camden.

ITT is a free tailored and practical service that offers
children and adults a set of essential skills, enabling them to
travel independently, without fear by public travel or on foot to a
place of education or day centre. The training will promote
independent life skills, improve self-esteem and confidence, reduce
social isolation and empower residents to make regular journeys in
the community safely. Once this skill is learnt, it could be used
further by the young person or adult to travel to another choice of
location such as a place of employment or leisure. This will
encourage the young person or adult to be less reliant on council
services, parents and carers to take them to places and can lead to
more opportunities to take part in social and community
activities.

The service will be managed by Camden Accessible Transport
Solutions (CATS) as an alternative solution to transport services
currently provided by the Council.

The procurement process will result in the award of a one year
contract with the option to extend for an additional twelve months
(two years in total), commencing on 1 November 2023 for an
estimated annual value of £150,000 (total value of
£300,000).

The procurement strategy is being presented to the Director of
Environment and Sustainability for approval in line with Contract
Standing Orders.
