Purpose
This report outlines proposals to make walking, cycling
and bus priority improvements to Camden Street, between the
junction of Kentish Town Road and Camden Road.
The proposals include a new signalised pedestrian crossing (and
improved cycle crossing provision) across Camden Street, connecting
Bonny Street and Camden Gardens, as well as new sections of bus
lane and cycle lanes on Camden Street. These proposals also
restrict motor vehicles from turning right from Camden Street into
Camden Gardens. The new signalised pedestrian crossing facility on
Camden Street resolves a current “missing link” in safe
walking infrastructure connecting Camden Road Overground station
and Hawley Wharf, Camden Town and Chalk Farm Road. A public
consultation these proposals was undertaken between 3rd
March 2023 and 24th March 2023.
The proposals meet the
objectives of
We Make Camden by adapting public space to
encourage and enable healthy and sustainable transport options like
walking and cycling, and bus journeys. This would in turn
contribute to improving air quality and lowering carbon emissions
in the borough.
