Purpose
This report seeks
an extension to the public health funerals contract (Burials and
Cremations). The Council has a statutory duty to provide this
service for the burial or cremation of persons whose demise is
within the boundary of London Borough of Camden. This includes
cases where no next of kin exists or is willing or able to arrange
or fund the cost of a funeral.
This report seeks
endorsement of the extension to the contract for 1
year.
The Public Health
Funeral Services is a statutory service for the burial or cremation
of people who die within the boundary of London Borough of Camden
and where there is no next of kin, or they are unwilling or unable
to arrange, or fund a funeral. Referrals come from hostels, general
practitioners' surgeries, hospitals within Camden (UCLH, National
Hospital, Marie Curie hospice), social workers and
residential homes. The 3-year contract with the Cooperative Funeral
Care Ltd will expire on the 14th December 2024. The Coop
have agreed to extend their services at the prices quoted in the
original tender in 2022. This provides financial stability for the
budget forecasting for the financial year 2024
–2025.
The contract extension report is being presented to the
Director of ASC Strategy and Commissioning and Deputy DASS for
approval in line with Contract Standing
Orders.
