About

The Cabinet, also known as the executive, is responsible for most day-to-day decisions within Canterbury City Council. It is led by the Council Leader, who appoints other councillors to form the Cabinet. The Cabinet provides strategic leadership, recommending the budget and key policy proposals to the Full Council for agreement, and is responsible for developing and implementing most policies. Cabinet members are assigned specific responsibilities known as 'portfolios'. While the Cabinet makes decisions, members of the public can speak at its meetings on reports not already scrutinised by the Overview Committee, allowing their views to be considered before decisions are made.
