About

The General Licensing Committee is responsible for the district council's licensing and enforcement functions across a range of areas. This includes taxi, food, and miscellaneous licensing, as well as health and safety matters and certain highway deposits. The committee also oversees contaminated land, pollution control, air quality management, and motor salvage operators.

It determines applications for licences and authorisations where the Director of Housing & Communities deems it necessary. The committee also decides on the suitability of licence holders, approves revisions to street trading consent regimes and sets associated fees. It can also consider prosecution proceedings and enforcement actions, including those related to smoke-free premises under the Health Act 2006.
