This Committee consists of 9 Members appointed in accordance with the political balance of the authority. It also consists of not less than 2 independent lay members. The Committee provides independent assurance to Members of the adequacy of the risk management framework and the internal control environment. It provides independent review of the Council’s governance, risk management and control frameworks and oversees the financial reporting and annual governance processes. It also oversees internal audit and external audit, helping to ensure efficient and effective assurance arrangements are in place. The Committee’s responsibilities include considering the effectiveness of the authority’s risk management arrangements; reviewing and approving the Annual Statement of Accounts; considering the Annual Audit Findings Report from our External Auditors and adopting the Council’s Annual Governance Statement.
