The County Planning Committee is responsible for making decisions on significant planning and development control matters across County Durham, as outlined in the 2000 Regulations. It handles large-scale residential developments (200+ homes or 4+ hectares), major non-residential projects (10,000+ sq m or 2+ hectares), and all proposals related to minerals, waste, and renewable energy, including wind turbines. The committee also considers developments deemed of strategic importance by the Head of Planning Services.
