Alternative options considered

A package of repairs to repair the concrete
and other defects were considered but they were not deemed to be
sufficient to restore the bridge to a 40T capacity. There were also
significant issues regarding the buildability of repair works that
would require dredging of the watercourse, and restricted
access/confined space construction teams.
 
Not carrying out any repairs or works was also
not deemed a feasible option as the weight limit has an impact on
road users and the structure will continue to deteriorate.
