·
To accept the terms of the updated offer and the grant funding sum
of £20,000.
·
To use this revenue to procure an established and qualified
consultant to provide a technical feasibility study of green energy
generation opportunities at the Port of Workington.
Reasons for the decision
·
The decision is to accept the Grant Funding Offer and to procure a
technical feasibility study of green energy generation
opportunities at the Port of Workington.
·
The decision supports the Port of Workington Masterplan and
it’s new Prospectus, reduce operational costs, help the drive
to net zero, and to catalyse local economic investment, growth and
development. The findings of this study would directly influence
the masterplan and next steps in the Port’s net zero
transition.
·
The decision is supported by the council’s Climate and Nature
Strategy, the Carbon and Energy Management Plan, and the
council’s own Net Zero ambitions.
Alternative options considered
·
Do not accept funding and do not carry out the feasibility
assessment at the Port. Not in accordance with Carbon & Energy
Management Plan. Not in support of the Port’s green growth
aspirations. This is not the recommended option.
·
Do not accept funding, instead self-fund the proposed feasibility
assessment at the Port. This option would require full funding from
council budget(s) and would not utilise available grants. This is
not the recommended option.
