Approval to set up a single-provider contract
to spot purchase two types of specialised chairs (Specialist Riser
Recliner Chair and Specialist Tilt-in-Space Chair) for the
Community Equipment Service. The contract will run for 18 months
from 1 February 2026, with an optional 12-month extension, up to a
maximum value of £350,000

Reasons for the decision

To ensure timely access to specialised chairs
that promote independence, comfort, and safety, while complying
with procurement regulations and achieving best value through a
competitive process

Alternative options considered

Continuing ad hoc purchasing was considered
but rejected due to risks of non-compliance, lack of transparency,
and inconsistent value for money. Division into lots was also
considered but deemed unsuitable due to the need for consistency
and simplified contract management.
