It has been agreed for Cumberland Council to
extend the Electronic Medication System (EMAR) contract with
Camascope for a period of 5
years.  This will modify the end date of
the contract to 31 January 2031

Reasons for the decision

This decision has been taken as it allows
Cumberland Care to continue operating an Electronic Medication
Administration Record (eMAR) System,
ensuring continuity of care, compliance with statutory duties and
the avoidance of operation disruption

Alternative options considered

The Council had considered the full
reprocurement of a new eMAR system, but it was felt that there was no way
to migrate the historic medication data and undertake the required
transition prior to the existing contract ending.  An Exit Plan has been built into the extension to
allow for a full reprocurement to be
completed at the end of the extension.

The Council had considered returning to manual
medication recording (paper-based) whilst the service was
reprocured, but it was felt that this would cause a significant
risk of medication errors and the Council would lose the required
audit trails and performance data
