Decision to submit a grant funding bid to
Sellafield Ltd.’s Social Impact Fund, to deliver an upgrade
to the Carlton entertainment venue and community arts hub,
providing an increased events space with a greater audience
capacity.
 

Reasons for the decision

To facilitate a wider range of popular, quality
live attractions it is considered important to vary the previously
approved scheme for the Carlton theatre.  This would see creation of a more flexible event
space, including greater capacity, a permanent stage, upgrades to
the mechanical and electrical (M&E) plant, enhancements to the
acoustics, relocation of the dressing room to the first floor, and
increased WC provision. 
 

Alternative options considered

To proceed with the existing approved scheme,
featuring a smaller capacity  performance space. 
Taking into consideration feedback from stakeholders, including the
local business community, it is considered this option would fail
to maximise the potential of the facility.
 
Risks
 
That the bid is unsuccessful - it would be
necessary to either proceed with the previously approved scheme or
look for alternative funding sources, including any potential
savings elsewhere in the Maryport FHSF programme.
