1.1 
As part of its statutory obligations the local authority must have
in place suitable contracts for the ‘Removal of Bodies on
behalf of HM Coroner’ across Cumbria.

 
1.2 
The decision requested is under delegated authority the Director of
Resources to give permission to award contacts to the winning
bidders who submitted tenders, through the recent formal tender
process, to seek to cover the four geographic ‘Lots’
that were available within the contract, thus ensuring appropriate
and robust contract arrangement are in place across Cumbria from
1st April 2024.
 
1.3 
It is therefore recommended that the following organisations be
awarded the contracts for the geographic lots, as listed below.

Lot One: Carlisle & surrounding area

Lot Two: Eden & south Lakeland / Kendal

Walkers Funeral Directors, Penrith.

Lot Three: Barrow and South Cumbria

Saunders & Son Funeral Directors, Grange-over-Sands

Lot Four: West Cumbria covering previous Copeland & Allerdale

The prospective contractors detailed above have provided tender
submissions that included the appropriate detail which offered
assurances that they could effectively carry out this
businesscritical service to the required standard, and to the
agreed contract specification detailed within the tender
documentation, and based on the quality / price criteria, each
achieved the requisite score to make theirs the successful tender
in that specific geographic ‘Lot’.
