On the grounds of safety, the Grade II Listed
Cast-Iron Railings on Newmarket Road will be temporarily removed,
transported, and then stored at a Cumberland Council Depot. The
sandstone plinth which also forms part of the listed structure
shall remain in place.
 
As a temporary measure and in place of the
cast-iron railings, a timber post and rail fence shall be erected
in order to retain the boundary between The Sands Car Park and the
footway on Newmarket Road.
 
A report will be presented to Council at the
annual budget meeting seeking budget approval for the restoration
and refurbishment of the listed structure.
