Purpose

The Council is supporting the
Cumbria Community Forest to achieve the goal of to create a minimum
of 5,000 hectares of new woodland along a 56 mile stretch of the
west coast over the next 25 years by:
•          
Supporting  the creation and adoption of
the first Cumbria Community Forest Plan (Adoption
2024/25)
•          
Working in partnership to deliver up to 150 hectares of trees,
woodlands and forests being planted along the West Cumbria
coast.
•          
Increase the average tree canopy to meet the Government’s
national target of 16.5% by 2050 (currently 12.8% across England,
12.9% in Carlisle, lower percentage on West Cumbria
coast).
•          
At least one Council owned site in progress each year from 2024/25
through DEFRA Funding of Climate and Nature Fund.

Content

The sites listed in the table below have been
approved by the Cumbria Community Forest Partnership Board (CCFPB)
and the Community Forest Trust (CFT) for delivery.
