Content
The subject matter of this ODN is the decision
to approve a loan from the Tullie House museum’s collection
to The Dovecot Studios, Edinburgh.
Reasons for the decision
The Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh is seeking to
loan a painting titled "Rue de Poulfenc à Riec 1910" by
Lucien Pissarro (1863-1944) for inclusion in a planned exhibition
from February 7 to June 28, 2025. The painting was last valued at
£125,000.
This painting has not been requested for loan
previously, and this exhibition presents a valuable opportunity to
showcase it alongside significant works that highlight Lucien
Pissarro’s influence on British painters during that
period.
The painting was re-framed and glazed in 2000
and is reported to be in good condition. A condition check will be
conducted prior to the loan.
The loan will be contingent upon the
fulfilment of Tullie’s conditions, which include provisions
for transport, crating, insurance, courier arrangements, security
measures, environmental monitoring, and the supply of a facilities
report along with a security supplement.
Alternative options considered
Decision not to authorise the loan –
there is no material benefit to approving this option. Loans are
standard within the museum sector. All risks will be managed
through long standing processes and procedures.
Risks
The loan is to a reputable organisation and
the process is well managed from a risk perspective.
